Why Parents Love Our Pre-Ballet Program
At the Academy of Music in Grand Rapids, we believe ballet should be a magical, confidence-building experience — not just another activity on the calendar. That’s why we offer the Around the World Fairytale Princess Ballet program, an award-winning curriculum designed especially for children ages 3–7.
Our small classes (maximum 10 students) create a warm, supportive space where every child feels seen, encouraged, and celebrated. Whether your child is bursting with energy or a little shy, they’ll discover a love of movement, music, and imagination here.
Dance, Storytelling & Culture
A Journey Around the World
What makes our program unique? Every month, we introduce a new four-chapter princess story inspired by cultures from around the globe. Children don’t just learn ballet positions; they explore folk tales, listen to cultural music, and dance through imaginative adventures.
Each class builds toward a positive message — kindness, sharing, friendship — and ends with a hint of “what happens next” to keep your child excited for the next class. Parents tell us they love seeing their children come home eager to share the week’s story or show off a new dance move.
Celebrate Growth at the Royal Princess Ball
Our year culminates in the magical Royal Princess Ball — a sweet, informal recital where children can show off their new skills and share their love of dance with family. There’s no pressure for perfection; it’s all about joy, accomplishment, and memories that last.

You’ll watch your child blossom over the weeks:
- Gaining strength and coordination

Parents Q & A
More About Our Beginners Ballet Classes
What should my child wear to class?
Comfortable clothes they can move in — tights, leotard, athletic shorts, T-shirt are all fine. Ballet slippers are required. We recommend long-hair pulled back so they can dance freely.
My child is shy or has never danced before - Is that okay?
Absolutely! Our teachers are experienced in working with beginners and know how to make each child feel welcome and supported
How do the cultural stories fit into class?
Each session’s princess story comes from a different part of the world, introducing simple cultural elements through music, movement, and storytelling — all at a preschooler’s level.
Do we need to commit for the full year?
We offer flexible enrollment options, and many families choose to stay all year to enjoy the full experience, culminating in the Royal Princess Ball.
What if my child loses interest or struggles to focus?
Our small class sizes and engaging format help keep kids on track. Teachers are trained to adapt and meet kids where they are, making class a positive space for everyone.
Is there a recital or performance?
Yes! At the end of the season, your child can participate in the Royal Princess Ball — a low-pressure, heartwarming event to celebrate their growth.
How do I enroll or learn more?
Visit our website, call us, or stop by the studio. We’re happy to answer questions, schedule a trial, or help you reserve your spot.
