What Students Will Learn

Every audition is different, which is why every coaching session is personalized to the student’s goals, experience level, and audition requirements. Whether preparing for an acting, singing, or musical theatre audition, students receive practical coaching that helps them feel more confident and better prepared on audition day.

Depending on the audition, students may work on:

  • Monologue preparation and character development
  • Audition song preparation and storytelling
  • Cold-reading skills
  • Vocal technique, breath support, and diction
  • Stage presence and performance confidence
  • Acting through a song
  • Audition etiquette and introductions
  • Working with accompaniment or audition tracks
  • Mock auditions with constructive feedback

Every coaching session provides encouraging, personalized instruction that helps students strengthen their performance skills and walk into the audition feeling prepared and confident.

How Audition Coaching Works

Every audition is unique, so we begin by learning about your student’s goals and audition requirements. This helps us match your student with the instructor best suited to help them succeed.

  • Contact Academy of Music

Tell us about your student’s upcoming audition. We’ll send you a brief questionnaire so we can learn about:

    • The audition or performance opportunity
    • The audition date
    • Your student’s age and experience
    • Required songs, monologues, or scenes
    • Audition instructions or time limits
  • We’ll Match the Right Instructor

Once we review the questionnaire, we’ll pair your student with the instructor whose experience best fits their needs. If the audition includes both acting and singing, coaching may involve both an acting instructor and a voice instructor.

  • Attend Your Coaching Session

Students should bring any available audition materials, including:

    • Scripts or monologues
    • Sheet music
    • Accompaniment tracks
    • Audition instructions
    • Time limits or required cuts

Your instructor will provide personalized coaching, practical feedback, and guidance tailored to your student’s audition.

  • Continue Preparing with Confidence

After each session, students leave with clear feedback, additional practice strategies, and greater confidence as they prepare for audition day.

Questions Parents Frequently Ask

No. Private audition coaching is beneficial for both first-time performers and students with previous audition experience. Every coaching session is personalized to the student’s experience level, goals, and audition requirements.

We’ll help you determine the best fit. After learning about your student’s audition, we’ll recommend acting coaching, singing coaching, musical theatre coaching, or a combination of instructors when appropriate.

Absolutely. One of the biggest benefits of private audition coaching is helping students feel more confident and prepared. Through personalized instruction, practice, and mock auditions, students become more comfortable with the audition process and learn how to perform with greater confidence.

That depends on your student’s experience level, goals, and how much time remains before the audition. Some students only need one focused session, while others benefit from multiple sessions to develop, practice, and refine their performance.

Yes. If your student hasn’t selected audition material yet, our instructors can help recommend appropriate monologues, songs, or other audition pieces based on the audition requirements and your student’s experience level.

If available, students should bring any audition materials they have, including monologues, scripts, sheet music, accompaniment tracks, audition instructions, and any time limits or performance requirements. If materials haven’t been selected yet, we’ll help guide that process.

Yes. Many musical theatre auditions require both acting and singing. Depending on the audition, coaching may include one instructor or a combination of acting and voice instructors.

The sooner, the better. Scheduling several weeks before an audition gives students time to practice, receive feedback, and continue improving between sessions. However, even a single coaching session can be valuable when audition day is approaching.

No. Private audition coaching can also help students preparing for choir auditions, show choir, performing arts programs, featured solos, self-taped auditions, and other performance opportunities.

Absolutely. Private audition coaching is available to both Academy of Music students and new students. Coaching is personalized to each student’s goals and experience, regardless of previous training.

Private audition coaching is appropriate for many school-age students and teens preparing for auditions. If you’re unsure whether coaching is right for your student, we’d be happy to discuss their goals and recommend the best option.

Many students benefit from a single coaching session, especially for a specific audition. Others prefer multiple sessions to build confidence, refine their performance, and receive additional feedback before audition day. We’ll gladly recommend the option that’s best for your student.

No. Casting decisions are made by the audition panel and depend on many factors. Our goal is to help your student feel well prepared, perform with confidence, and present their strongest audition.

Simply contact Academy of Music or book your coaching session online. We’ll learn about your student’s audition, match them with the appropriate instructor, and create a personalized coaching plan.
