Great for Many Students
Ages 5 & Up
(Ages 5 & Up)
Our Piano Instructors in Grand Rapids teach a variety of styles from classical to popular music. Whether you want to learn a classical sonatina or popular sheet music, our teachers are happy to help you become the pianist you want to be. Our piano faculty will help you with sight-reading, technique, and theory, but they will also incorporate your favorite songs into your lessons. Piano students need either an acoustic piano or simple, full-sized electronic keyboard (preferably weighted keys) at home to take lessons.

Best for Young Beginners
Ages 6 to 12
Designed for piano students ages 6-12 in their first 1–3 years. Piano Foundations helps children learn faster, build confidence, and truly enjoy piano lessons from the very beginning.
Many students can complete up to 4 of the 6 levels in their first year.
How many students will be in each class?
The Assessment classes will have room for 4-6 students and be supervised by a teacher and assistant. The Discovery classes will group up to 10 students to work together on additional musicianship, technique, theory, and improvisation goals.
Will my child like group lessons?
Yes! Students love learning alongside peers, and group energy keeps them engaged.
What if we don’t have a digital piano at home?
No problem! The app works with acoustic pianos too—you just won’t get the scoring while they practice.
Is this for beginners only?
It’s perfect for beginners through early intermediate students (levels 1–4). Intermediate students learn best in a private lesson setting.
How do parents stay informed about progress and upcoming events?
Teachers keep parents updated on a weekly basis, and the office team updates parents regarding schedules, event reminders, and performance details well in advance. You’ll always know what’s coming up, and how to best support your child’s experience in the program.
What is the registration process and how soon should we sign up?
Registration is simple and can be completed online in just a few minutes. Because classes are kept small to give each child personal attention, spots do fill quickly—so we recommend signing up early to secure your child’s place.
Will Piano Foundations students still be eligible for the Academy Musical Ladder achievement system and annual recitals?
Yes, students will receive achievement awards, and more importantly, will be regularly encouraged by the computer app rewards when they pass their pieces at home and at their lesson! They will also have an opportunity to perform in recitals just like our private lesson students.
How Much Does Piano Foundations Cost?
Your cost is $35 per 60-minute class. We are very proud to bring you this quality of instruction at this low price.
Studies show Piano Express® students can progress up to 50% faster than students taking traditional 30-minute private lessons. In many cases, students:
– Complete at least 4 of the 6 method books within the first year
– Play with greater accuracy, expression, and musicality
– Become more independent learners
– Develop a stronger love for music and practice
